- In the DM world, apart from Sweden which recorded 2% increases in both cases and deaths, no country saw any big surges.
- In the EM world, Pakistan, South Africa, and Argentina are in today’s pole position with 5% case increases. Pakistan recently saw nearly 100 MPs infected by COVID, while South Africa still remains the most affected country in Africa. Indonesia, Egypt, Mexico, Brazil, and Chile all saw a 4% increase in daily cases. On deaths, Chile leads with an 8% increase. It recently extended its total quarantine. Mexico, Colombia, Nigeria, and Saudi Arabia all recorded a 5% increase.
- Looking at which countries are at peak waves, we find the following:
-
- In DM, almost all countries find themselves in the declining wave quadrant. The exceptions are Greece, Sweden, and Portugal.
-
- In EM, the situation is much more polarized. Latam countries plus Indonesia, Pakistan, Egypt, Nigeria, and South Africa are still in peak wave with high cases and deaths. On the other hand, in Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Hungary and Thailand the virus remains at low levels.
