- One of the big challenges across the world is the level of testing. Moreover, comparisons are made between countries on the basis of the absolute level of tests rather than the tests per capita. While the data is imperfect, we’ve scraped together as much data as we can on the cumulative tests per capita by country. We find the following:
- Iceland and UAE stand out as having tested by far the most (Chart 1).
- The next major batch of testers are Norway, Switzerland, Israel, Italy and Germany.
- The worst (lowest) testers are Nigeria, Indonesia, India, Mexico and Egypt of the countries we’re tracking.
- The US is the middle of the pack – it has tested more than Singapore but less than Korea and Russia.
- The UK has tested less, and is in the same neighbourhood as Poland, Turkey, France and Hungary.
- As for the daily stats:
- US states – Delaware, Georgia, Iowa, Nebraska, Rhode Island and Dakota saw big increases in cases (10% +), while Hawaii, Kentucky, Louisiana, Montana, Vermont and Washington are seeing much smaller increases (+1%). As for deaths, there have been surges in Utah, Rhode Island, Missouri, Iowa, and Idaho (20%+)
- DM countries – the pace of increase has slowed markedly. At the high-end around 5% daily increases, we have the UK, France, Sweden, US and Canada. The rest are seeing barely any increases. Deaths are still increasing, though. Noticeably in NZ (up 80%), Japan (+16%) and Canada (+15%).
- EM countries – The biggest case increases are being seen in Singapore, India, and Russia (all 10%+), while smallest increases are in Czech Republic, Thailand, Korea, Taiwan, HK and China. The change in death count is worse with 10%+ increases in Singapore, India, Indonesia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Russia, Nigeria, Saudi, UAE, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, and Chile.
