We track scheduled flights (what’s planned) and tracked flights (what’s in the air). Looking at data up to April 13th we find the following:
• Both scheduled and tracked flights are falling or remain low across the world. Some airports in the US (Chicago and Dallas) and in Asia (Shanghai, HK, Seoul) are seeing some level of tracked flights albeit at lower levels than in the past.
• London Gatwick airport had the highest weekly decline in scheduled flights – currently 16 compared to 135 a week ago.
• There were some increases in scheduled flights (though not necessarily tracked flighst) in Singapore and modestly in Beijing, Shanghai, Toronto, Vancouver and Rome. This may suggest flights may start to pick up.
• In Japan, Narita International airport had the sharpest decline in scheduled and tracked flights. Haneda International airport had showed slower declines.
