We track scheduled flights (what’s planned) and tracked flights (what’s in the air). Looking at data up to June 15th we find the following:
- Barcelona, London Gatwick, and Madrid showed the slowest recovery rates for scheduled flights. By contrast, Shanghai, Beijing and Tokyo Haneda are leading the rebound (Chart 1).
- In tracked flights, Beijing, Shanghai, and Dallas show the largest rebound. Milan, London Gatwick, and Barcelona remain some away from pre-COVID levels (Chart 1).
- On an MoM basis, scheduled flights from London Gatwick, Paris, and Munich all increased by over 30%. By contrast, Milan and Hong Kong all had large monthly declines by over 20%.
- Tracked flights in London, Atlanta, New York, Beijing, Tokyo Haneda, Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Rome, and Madrid all increased by over 30% MoM. On the other hand, Tokyo Narita and Hong Kong decreased by more than 20% MoM.
