Japan officials have started verbal intervention on the JPY. Last year, we had a pattern of initial verbal intervention (‘respond flexibly with all options on the table’, June 2022) and then actual intervention (September and October 2022). So we have to take today’s comments seriously – most expect 150 as the line in the sand when intervention could start. But three things worry me:
