- In the DM world, new cases in the US visibly dropped on Monday to 51,947, which is almost 26,500 lower than last week’s record of 78,289. Deaths have also been fewer, standing at 423 on Monday which is less than half compared with last week. But some states still recording increases.
- California reported nearly 12,000 new cases on Monday, its biggest increase since the pandemic began.
- Eric Garcetti, LA mayor, declared that LA is on the verge of another lockdown and its reopening will happen with careful consideration. On Sunday, LA had its highest numbers of hospitalizations in a single day, at 2,216, while more than half of the 2,848 new cases were among people younger than 41.
- In the UK, there were only 526 new cases on Monday, a decrease compared to Sunday’s 726.
- Oxford University’s vaccine appears safe and triggers immune response. There were no dangerous side-effects from taking the vaccine, however, 70% of people on the trial developed either fever or headache.
- In Australia, Monday’s values were low, at only 12 new cases after 11 days in which new infections ranged between 175 and 475 per day. We will monitor whether yesterday’s value will be revised.
- In Japan, new cases are still emerging, with 419 new infections reported on Monday.
- In EM, India reported on Monday 40,425 new cases, which is its highest single day record since the pandemic began.
- Hong Kong reports 74 new infections. Its current wave is largely believed to have imported cases and public complacency as its main triggers.
- The Philippines recorded yesterday 1,442 new cases. The country continues to experience a peak wave and President Duerte threatened that anyone not wearing a mask will be arrested.
- In Latam, Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina continue to have peak wave increases, while Africa sees a similar situation with Nigeria and South Africa.
