• Yesterday, we looked at how daily cases have changed over the past week in developed countries. Today, we look at the same for emerging markets.
• The countries that are seeing 50% more daily cases this week compared to last week include: India, Indonesia and Pakistan, Poland, Russia, Turkey, South Africa, Egypt, UAE, Colombia, Mexico, and Brazil (Charts 1 and 2).
• The countries seeing less daily cases compared to last week include: Thailand, Philippines, Nigeria, Iran, Israel and Argentina.
• In terms of the broader stats – here are the highlights:
○ US states:
‣ The following states saw 20%+ daily growth rates: Delaware, Illinois, Maryland, and South Dakota. I’d also add that Iowa, Texas, Rhode Island and Penn are seeing steadily more daily cases.
‣ NY saw an increase in daily cases.
‣ At the other end, Connecticut finally sees an easing in cases (0% growth), Hawaii appears to be past its initial peak, Kentucky is volatile but saw no increases and South Carolina saw no new cases.
‣ There were large increases in deaths in Illinois (+50%), New Hampshire (+44%) and Penn (+29% and North Carolina (+25%).
○ DM: The UK’s poor run continues with a 10% increase in cases and 15% increase in deaths. Sweden and the US are the other two seeing around 10% increases in cases and 15%+ increases in deaths. Australia appears to be significantly reduced its case growth rate (currently 2%). Iceland also appears to be containing it now.
○ EM: Aside from cases mentioned above, looking at death stats, South Africa saw a surge in deaths (+38%). Hungary, Poland and Brazil also saw large increases in deaths (around 20%).
