We track scheduled flights (what’s planned) and tracked flights (what’s in the air). Looking at data up to June 28th we find the following:
- Milan, Barcelona, and Madrid continue to lead the weekly recovery in tracked flights in line with the gradual reopening of borders (Charts 1 & 2).
- Beijing has fallen to the bottom of scheduled flight growth (Charts 1 & 2), after last week dropping to the bottom of tracked flight growth, with the latest virus outbreak increasingly impacting air travel. It remains in the top three of scheduled flight growth compared with March 1 levels (Charts 3 & 4) given the earlier shutdown.
- WoW scheduled and tracked flights have remained relatively stable overall, indicating that economies continue to gradually reopen. (Charts 1 & 2).
- After almost four months of monitoring tracked flights, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Dallas have shown the largest rebound. By contrast, London Gatwick, Singapore, and Madrid continue to have the lowermost recovery rate in both tracked flight as well as scheduled flights (Charts 3 & 4).
